So, toss the kids in the car and come on out and possibly see something you’ve never seen before. This is a true pop up event in that we didn’t know it would happen for sure until yesterday evening. The farm is located about a mile outside New Petersburg on the left. Pull into the driveway and you’ll be directed to parking. Don’t forget this is a working dairy farm so you may want to put your gum boots on!

SSCC auditions for Macbeth

SouthernState_logoSSCC Theatre is pleased to announce upcoming auditions for the summer production of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” Open to community members and students, auditions will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, and 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

Macbeth, a brave Scottish general, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders the king and takes the throne for himself. His reign is racked by guilt and paranoia, and he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler as he is forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion. The bloodbath swiftly takes Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into realms of arrogance, madness, and death.

Those interested in auditioning should prepare and memorize a one- to two-minute classical monologue. It does not have to be Shakespeare, nor from “Macbeth.” If you’re interested in auditioning, but unavailable to attend either audition date, please contact Rainee Angles to schedule an alternate audition date prior to April 18.

“Macbeth,” directed by Rainee Angles, will be performed July 25-27 and is the final show of SSCC Theatre’s 10th anniversary celebration. For more information about “Macbeth,” available roles, and a rehearsal schedule, please visit the audition page at

Appalachain Gateway Guild

SPARK-logo 200x202Spark paid a visit to another new area art group on April 10, 2014. The Appalachian Gateway Guild is currently working out of the Appalachian Gateway Center at Southern State’s South Campus. Southern State has elected to stop teaching ceramics once it moves into its new building near Mt. Orab and potters and students in the area are organizing in the hope that they will be able to acquire the Gateway Center and continue promoting the potter’s art.
