NOTES from JAYNE…
Supply List for 50” Quilt Top
I’m glad you’ve signed up for a sewing/quilting class with me! Teaching and sharing this hobby is something I enjoy doing, and I hope this will be a positive experience for you.
Going into this, you should know some basics. You’ll be bringing your own working sewing machine and you should be able to operate it, including such basics as winding a bobbin, threading, and sewing a straight quarter-inch seam. I will provide extension cords. In addition, it would be wise to bring thread to match your fabric, sewing scissors and pins. I will be able to provide other tools for the project.
Supplies needed for this project:
3 Charm Packs in coordinating colors (these are sold in quilt shops and online); a charm square is a 5” square of fabric; a charm pack consists of 42 squares of an entire fabric line. These cost $9-$10 in quilt shops and can be ordered for a bit less online.
1/3 yard of a neutral (light) matching fabric for inner border
That’s all!! I have made one in baby (girl) fabrics and one in primitive-style fabrics. If a baby quilt is not your particular need, then consider using this quilt for an attractive table-cloth or for a lap throw or accent piece. A Christmas-themed quilt would be another option.
Since this is an all-day class, bring a sack lunch and whatever refreshments you want. We will be within walking distance of several restaurants, so that is another option.
Cost for the day-long class will be $40, payable on the day of the class. Reservations and registration will be handled through Spark! Creative Artspace.

Spark Creative Artspace, located at 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield, will be hosting an Art of Calligraphy workshop on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 10:00 am until Noon.
The class will be taught by Spark artist Lindsey Buck, the artist and calligrapher behind The Hive Studio, where she creates custom artwork and offers a variety of calligraphy and travel-related prints and whimsies on her Etsy shop.
Lindsey recently returned to Ohio from Philadelphia, where she worked for Anthropologie, doing various calligraphy, illustration and design projects.
She is self-taught and has almost four years of experience with scribing in calligraphy. It is a beautiful art and has grown into a passion she can’t wait to share.
The workshop will focus on the basics – how to correctly hold the pen, the anatomy of a ‘nib’, dipping your pen into ink and developing your own calligraphy style by referring to the alphabet.
You will take home your kit so you can continue to practice on your own. The kit includes 1 pen nib; 1 nib holder; ink and ink well; tracing paper; grid paper; calligraphy paper and envelopes.
Workshop cost is $40 and will include a calligraphy kit. Food and beverages will be served! Enrollment is limited to twelve students on a first come first serve basis. Registration tickets may be purchased online with major credit cards at Spark’s Eventbrite page. Click on the following button and place your order.
Spark Creative Artspace teamed with the Fayette County Memorial Hospital Foundation on May 22, 2014 to present an evening of fun and art instruction at the FCMH site in Washington Court House, Ohio. The event, Painting with a Purpose, drew nearly fifty area residents who participated and joyously completed their interpretation of Gustav Klimt’s 1905 classic, Tree of Life. Cost of the evening, a $40 donation, included a selection of non-alcoholic spritzers, gourmet finger foods, all materials, professional instruction, and a finished canvas as evidence of their accomplishment.
These art canvas events have proven very popular and both Spark and the FCMH Foundation plan other such events in the future.
Proceeds went to help support the activities of both non-profit groups.
Fresh off it’s extremely successful Canvas Art Events, the next offering from Spark Creative Artspace is an evening of roots music featuring The Gypsy Jug Band and the One Damn Man. This event will actually be two events going on simultaneously; a music concert and a Friday night fish fry. It will all take place April 25, 2014 at the VFW Ranch, 12868 Watt Rd. (right behind the Eagle’s lodge) and the fish fry will begin selling take home fish sandwiches at 5:00 pm. A quality fish sandwich with slaw will go for $5 and all proceeds will go to help fund Spark’s growth. If you wish to stay for the music, it begins inside the VFW Ranch building at 7:00 pm and goes on until 10:30 pm. There will be a $10 door charge. The event is BYOB and responsibility is the word of the evening. Spark! will be conducting a silent auction of donated Appalachian arts, musical instruments, gift certificates and other items. We will also have available custom designed super soft 100% cotton event t-shirts for only $15. This is going to be a great way to wind down the week, ease into the weekend, and help put more Spark!into life in Greenfield.
